Lamar county shooting injures one, 2 suspects still sought
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - A Lamar county man was hospitalized Sunday evening after a shooting in Lamar county.
The shooting occurred at 4 p.m. off West 4th Street near the intersection of Mary Circle and West Ray Drive said Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel.
Sheriff Rigel said "Three suspects approached a residence and shot the homeowner in the chest one time." After the shooting the victim ran behind the back house into the suspects car.
"He was able to jump into the suspects car who left the engine running and he drove himself to the hospital" Sheriff Rigel said. The suspects ran from the residence, but one was apprehended a short time later.
Matthew Warner, 23, of Georgia was charged with aggravated assault and attempted robbery. "We also recovered several weapons, firearms, one of which is believed to be the firearm in the shooting" said Sheriff Rigel.
The other two suspects are believed to be in Georgia said Sheriff Rigel. The victim is in stable condition.
