Truck slams into fence and tree, 1 injured

JASPER COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.

Late Sunday night, around 11PM, units from Sandersville Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of a one vehicle accident on Sandersville Heidelburg Road.

Initially, it was believed the accident was within Jones County but units were advised that it took place just across the Jasper County line; units from Sandersville and Rustin still responded due to the close proximity to Sandersville fire station.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavily damaged white Ford Super Duty work truck lodged against a treeline with a conscious but injured male driver.

According to reports, the truck was heading towards Sandersville on Sandersville Heidelburg Road when the truck left the roadway after rounding a curve, went up a small embankment, took out several feet of barbed wire fence, hit a tree, and then came to a halt facing the treeline.

The force of the impact caused the top section of the tree to snap completely in half and fall to the ground. The driver appeared to have sustained moderate to severe injuries and was transported by EMServ ambulance to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.

The cause of the accident is unknown.

Rescue personnel on scene included Sandersville and Rustin Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Sandersville Police Department and Jasper County Sheriff's Department.

Fire apparatus on scene included Sandersville Rescue and Sandersville Fire Chief 1. Several units also arrived in their personal vehicles.
