Two houses struck by lightning in Lamar co.

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - Two lightning strikes moments apart destroyed two houses in Lamar county Tuesday evening.

According to Emergency Management Director James Smith Lamar county Volunteer Firefighters responded to 205 Burnt Bridge Road where a tree was struck by lightning and extending into the roof.

Moments later another lightning strike struck the home on 34 Den Stone Road where the garage caught on fire.

"It has been an unusual week with lightning in Lamar county" said Smith. One man died Monday night in Lamar county from a lightning strike.

Smith reminds residents to try and stay away from lightning. "If you see lightning outside, make sure you stay inside and stray away from open fields, where lightning typically strikes."

Smith said no one was injured in both house fires.
