Man charged with murder in Waynesboro, multiple shots fired

WAYNESBORO, Miss. - Waynesboro police said they are still investigating the death of Marcus Sanchez McGill, 23, of Waynesboro.

Authorities arrested Ernest Lee West Jr.,23, for first degree murder early Saturday morning.

Waynesboro Police Spokesman Don Hopkins said, "Friday night around 9:30 p.m. we received a call shots fired 200 block of Sunset Blvd and Martin Luther King Drive."

"Two subjects involved, one shot the other one about three to four shots fired" said Hopkins.

While en route to the scene, Hopkins said police received another call. "We received another call with the subject down and was transported in a personal vehicle to Wayne General hospital" said Hopkins.

Authorities said McGill was pronounced dead at around 10:30 p.m. "West was arrested 4:30 a.m. the following morning, we had a search warrant for first degree murder" said Hopkins.

He continued, "We seized a couple items possibly involved from the homicide" added Hopkins.

Hopkins said McGill's body was sent to the Jackson for an autopsy.
