Pine Belt voters react on Trump presidency

PINE BELT, Miss. - After Election Day took the nation into the wee hours of early Wednesday morning to hear who will take the President seat, the Pine Belt received a mixed reaction.

Precincts across the nation were still counting votes around 2 A.M. Central Time, but it was an obvious outcome that Republican candidate Donald Trump had beat Democratic Hillary Clinton.

Oak Grove Senior Center voter, Lynn Davis said, "We’re still frightful, of the unknown of what he can do, but we are going to pray for him, and stand by him and stand by our nation, and pray that we all get in one, accord and unity, and pull together.”

“I am still in shock, I just can’t believe, it I did not think he was going to win, I thought Hillary was going to win" said Jamad Smith, Southern Miss student.

Bill Galloway added, “A lot of disappointed people, that were on the other side with Hillary, but they need to join, they need to join the ranks, of the people who were behind this, and make this country work right.”

Another Southern Miss student said, " “I wish more of the community, the black community, would have voted, they said there was a low rate here in Mississippi, so that is just my own thing about it, I just wish more people would have voted.”

Jim Hoffman said, “It was a very stout and good campaign, his was too, I was not in favor of either one of them, with the campaign, and their rhetoric, I was very disappointed the way that campaigns went on.”

President Elect Trump and President Obama are expected to meet Thursday to discuss his transition into the White House.
