Christian Services hosts Annual Thanksgiving lunch

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Christian Services hosted its annual Thanksgiving lunch to the Pine Belt residents Tuesday.

Spokesperson Vanessa Henson said the organization served around 2,000 meals and it could not have happened without the communities' support.

“Whether people came in to volunteer or to donate turkeys or green beans, they not only came in to help serve and prep meals but they helped prepped turkeys behind the scenes and they bring it back to us" said Henson.

Volunteers helped weeks prior to the lunch and on Tuesday. Church Volunteer Brian Walters said he wanted his youth ministry to give back to the community.

“Let them see what its like to get in, and do some volunteer work and be thankful this time of year, to be able to serve others" said Walters.

Thanksgiving attendees said they were thankful for the warm meal.

“I am proud, the center is here, the Lord blessed me to wake up, to see this beautiful day and everybody here getting blessed on this Thanksgiving day" said Henry Sanders.

James Reynolds said, “I’m just blessed to be here to be able to give back to the community, and fellowship with all nationalities, and all races because God made one. He did not made a certain color or a certain race.”

Nakia Edmonds said, "So we came down here and its all types of people, good bad, black white, it doesn’t matter and it feels so awesome to be here, and I want to start my baby off early knowing that this is what America is.”
