LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - The Lamar County School District will have a suicide prevention panel event Thursday night at Oak Grove Primary to help bring more awareness about suicide.
There have been nine suicides in the last three years in Lamar County.
Superintendent, Tess Smith wants parents to learn how to talk to their kids about this issue.
Smith said "I've learned a lot during this process. There is no fix. But, if you can know how to look for certain things and prevent, because there's so many things that go on in the lives of our children these days. We live in a very fast-paced world. We're all very busy. And anything that we can notice that we can put a child where they need to be and get the help they need to prevent doing anything like that."
Smith said the school district has educated faculty members about this issue.
Starting in the spring, students will learn more about suicide prevention.
