Jones Co. Sheriff's Dept. asking public to be on the lookout for burglaries

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - There have been nearly 300 burglaries in Jones County in the last year, and a third of them has happened within the last two months.

The Jones County Sheriff's Department needs the public's help.

Jones County Sheriff, Alex Hodge said, "These people are in-and-out of the neighborhoods in vehicles broad day light. They know what they're doing. They know what they're seeking. They know what they're looking for. Now, they're finding the opportunity. That means they've been in your neighborhood at least once, if not twice. They've looked at your house. They know where your stuff is at. There's no question the Jones County Sheriff's Department is very visible. Visibility being the greatest deteriorate to crime. But, if we continue to work together, we can flush out these thugs and we can stop the burglaries that are overriding our county at this time."

Hodge said people should stop posting personal business on social media, because that makes it easier for criminals to hunt people down.

Hodge also said people should write down serial numbers of their personal items, in case their belongings get stolen.
