Young Jones co. brothers found alive and well
JONES COUNTY, Miss. - The following is a press release from the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.
Two brothers, ages 6 and 9, were reported missing by their mother around 5 p.m. on Saturday. Initially, units with the Jones County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene of the incident on Augusta Road, about five miles outside of Ellisville.
After conducting their initial search with K-9 search dogs, the Jones County Volunteer Search and Rescue team was called in to assist, as well as many other agencies from around the Jones County and nearby counties.
The mother of the boys had told emergency personnel that her sons usually go to the same spot in the wooded area behind their house to play, and when it was time for them to come home, she would call for them. However, this time, the boys didn't come home. She immediately called 911 for help.
At some point during the search and rescue operation, a request was put in for the Mississippi Highway Patrol search helicopter to assist with the effort. However, their assistance ended up not being needed.
Several hours after the search began, Team 4 with the Jones County Search and Rescue unit located the two boys while doing a parameter search.
It was reported that a neighbor's dog had stayed with the boys the entire time while the two children sat patiently, waiting for someone to find them.
Other than being cold and hungry, the two boys were found alive and well, and returned to their family, all of whom were waiting anxiously for their safe return.
An awesome reunion filled with tears, hugs, praises and smiles ended an hours' long search with the best possible outcome.
Emergency personnel on scene included firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders from multiple Jones County Volunteer Fire Departments, Jones County Sheriff's Department, Jones County Fire Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Emergency Operations Center, Forrest County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit and Forrest County Emergency Operations Center.
