Lamar B.O.S honor fallen Sumrall firefighters

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. - The Lamar Co. Board of Supervisors honored the two fallen Sumrall Firefighters Thursday morning during its monthly meeting.

The Board presented both families with plaques. Alvin Beasley, 80, and Loretta Sykes, 53, were killed last Wednesday by a hit-and-run driver while directing traffic on Highway 589 and Oloh Road.

A close family friend to both Beasley and Sykes, Quinn Bullock said, “They both served well. Mr. Alvin for all of his life, ever since I moved to Hattiesburg he was the center piece of the town."

Bullock added, "Lori and her son Chris were in the boy scouts and she just joined the adventure and she just became part of the family.”

Another family friend to both Beasley and Sykes, Freddy Stephens said, “I spoke with Mr. Alvin and Ms. Lori, even just hours before our tragedy and the tragic accident, we will forever remember them as leaders for our troop and we will always honor them.”

Another firefighter, Shaun Huhn, was also involved in the crash, but has been released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, Brandon Chance Eaton is charged with 3 counts of aggravated DUI. His bond is set at $3 million cash.
