Extra Table hosting Wine & Food Festival, proceeds provide healthy meals

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Extra Table will host their 14th Annual Wine and Food tasting Friday at Purple Parrot Cafe. All the proceeds will provide healthy meals for people who are food insecure in the state.

Extra Table is a local non-profit organization that works to fight hunger in Mississippi. The organization said in Forrest Co. alone there are 17,000 people are who food insecure and officials said a lot of those people are children.

Extra Table's Michael Dixon said, "We’re now sending food to 27 locations across the state in Mississippi."

He added, "It takes a little bit of funding to do that. We have to pay for gas and staff. It is a cost, but it’s a low cost, but events like this help us continue to serve food.”

Officials said its the state's largest Wine Festival and there will be over 110 wine samples and wine makers from across the globe.
