USM Social Work students remember H'burg child abuse victims

HATTIESBURG, MS. - University of Southern Miss. Social Work students teamed up with Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center to pay respect for the 368 child abuse victims in Hattiesburg.

Students set up a pinwheel garden on campus to raise awareness about the services the agency provided last year.

The pinwheel gardens were also placed in front of businesses and agencies around the Hattiesburg area.

Director of Kids Hub, Didi Ellis said, "Everybody in the community can have a part, and so not everybody has to do the hard part of what we do."

"But everybody can find a part, and to help out, so we can kick child abuse out our community.” Two of the larger pinwheels on campus symbolizes the two child deaths in Hattiesburg.
