Columbia City Park receives a Little Free Library

COLUMBIA, Miss. - The City of Columbia now has a Little Free Library.

The Little Free Library is located at Columbia City Park.

The Junior Auxiliary held a ribbon cutting Friday at the park to make it official.

Danielle Whittington, former president of Junior Auxiliary said, "If anyone has looked at the news and the stats lately, literacy is a huge problem in Mississippi especially. So what we want to do is allow everyone to have an opportunity to get to these books, even if they live in the outer most part of the county and don't have the means to travel here. If we can get one of these libraries close to them, then the kids can go and take a book, or the parents can go with them. It allows that interaction between the parents and the children, grandparents, caregivers to read to them, and to hopefully improve their love for books."

Whittington said this is the first out of six Little Free Libraries in Marion County to be installed.
