Man dies after being struck by a car

WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. - One Laurel man died Monday night after being hit by a car.

State Highway Patrol spokesman, Brent Barfield said Mason Cooley, 28, was found near a ditch on Highway 84.

Barfield said the driver of the vehicle, Jewel Epperson, 48, told authorities Cooley stepped in front of her car as she was traveling eastbound.

Cooley was transported to Wayne General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
