Community Day to benefit youth
LAUREL, Miss. - The 5th annual Ward 6 Community Day will be happening Saturday at Sandy Gavin Park.
This is a chance for everyone to fellowship with one another and celebrate life.
Ward 6 Councilman, Travares Comegys said, "I felt the need to implement it just because I wanted to bring our youth, our community together with local law enforcement, city officials, our fire department. I'm a firm believer in the more positive people that you put in front of kids, the better results you'll have."
There will be giveaways, school supplies, space jumps, and food for this free event.
Senator Juan Barnett will be the keynote speaker for this year's Community Day.
"Every year I try to choose a different person to deliver a different message. I usually go for a young successful person just so our kids can have a positive outlook on young people, because so many times we're vilified on videos and stuff like that. They always see young guys getting arrested and stuff like that. So, I like to bring young guys that's doing something positive in the community, family guys," said Comegys.
Everyone is invited to attend this event, and it will be from 10-1 p.m.
If you would like to donate food or school supplies for Community Day, you can reach Comegys at (601) 422-8984.
