Laurel School District's Superintendent, Chuck Benigno resigns
LAUREL, Miss. - Laurel School District's Chuck Benigno has served as superintendent for the last seven years, and has now decided to teach at William Carey University.
"These past seven years in Laurel have been an absolute joy. But the opportunity to join the William Carey family was something that I'm really excited about," said Benigno.
Benigno will work at William Carey's College of Education where he will teach graduate students.
"There's really nothing more important than helping these next generation of school leaders understand the importance of creating dynamic learning environments. And in today's world, you got to be able to reach graduate students in a variety of ways. And I think that William Carey is on the cutting edge with their program development," said Benigno.
Although Benigno is leaving Laurel, he will always cherish the people who have strived to embetter the city.
"There really is something special happening here in Laurel. And what we've done here in the schools in the past seven years is hopefully been brought back a great pride. We have focused on excellence, in academics, arts, and athletics. And I just can't say enough about the talented young people that are a part of this school district," said Benigno.
Benigno's last day as superintendent will be the end of December, and he starts at William Carey after the first of the year.
