Two candidates move forward with special election run-off

HATTIESBURG, MS. - The special election race for House District 102 continues in Hub-City. The four candidates vying for former State Representative Toby Barker's house seat could not get a solid fifty-plus percent of the vote Tuesday night.

Missy McGee and Kathryn Rehner were the two candidates with the highest percentage of the vote and will face each other in a run-off next month.

“The idea about everything that we do is about people and conversations and that’s what I believe what has gotten us this far as far as direct voter contact" says Rehner. McGee had approximately 44% of the vote and Rehner 24%. McGee says, “We just hit the ground running this morning going back to all the neighborhoods talking to folks, wanting to hear their visions for Hattiesburg."

She adds, "And we are working together to reach the potential that we know we can reach here in Hattiesburg.”

The special election run-off is scheduled for October 3.
