To-go-cup ordinance takes effect, Mayor urges residents to drink responsibly
HATTIESBURG, MS. - Today is the first day Hattiesburgers can now have a drink in their hand while strolling around downtown.
The to-go-cup ordinance that city council passed 4-1 in August is officially in effect. Resident can walk along the designated area with an alcoholic beverage inside a plastic container.

Mayor Toby Barker says, "We are excited about what the to-go cup is going to mean to our downtown area, we do encourage to act responsibly tonight."
He adds, "We do think it is going to be a catalyst for our economic growth, and for more businesses to pop up and it’s just a very part of our character of our city, and we are excited about it.”
