USM Career Fair

Up the escalator, and onto the third floor in the Thad Cochran Center at USM. Over eighty companies gathered here Tuesday to recruit potential job candidates at USM.

"I believe more students should take advantage of all the fairs. Just anything that this school offers," USM student, Ashley McArthur said.

That's why USM senior Kiara Phillips attended the fair.

"I'm so thankful that USM does a career fair. It gives us a chance to network with other businesses here," Phillips said. "I feel like that they are giving us a stepping stone towards, helping us market ourselves to get a job."

Phillips believes that it is important to get from behind the desk in the classroom, and begin to seek out conversations with business professionals.

"We're so confined in a classroom we don't really get a chance to get out and market ourselves. Sell ourselves so it gives us an opportunity," Phillips said. "I feel like that's a real important aspect as far as social skills because if you don't have good networking and social skills, no company will want you."

Phillips admits that the road to her dream job may be far away, but she began the journey of a thousand miles by taking her first steps here today.
