Sorority raises heart health awareness in Pine Belt

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Theta Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. partnered with Ebenezer Baptist Church to kick off their annual Pink Goes Red event Tuesday.

The event helps to make people aware of the dangers of heart disease and stroke.

Vice President of Theta Sigma Omega, Brenda Luethje, said the event provides blood pressure checks and information to help women maintain their health.

The event serves more than just information, but it serves as a sense of fulfillment for the sorority.

“I think the most rewarding thing is that we get to meet a number of people along the way and we come in to these senior citizen events that they are having at various churches and just to talk to them and to hear some of their stories and their struggles with blood pressure and heart disease,” said Luethje.

Women of all ages also received information on healthy diets and routine check-ups.
