William Carey University Expands BSN Program to Baton Rouge General
HATTIESBURG, MISS. - William Carey University's (WCU) School of Nursing announced the expansion of their program to Baton Rouge General, where 80 students will be accepted each year. “The United States will be 1.3 million nurses short, and so any opportunity we have to increase the number of available nurses through increasing the number of nurses we can educate is nothing but a benefit to both ourselves and our communities,” Dr. Janet Williams, associate vice president of health programs at William Carey University said. “We need to increase the number of nurses that are available, and the only way to do that is to increase the number of nurses we are educating. Experts predict the nursing shortage to hit the country in the year of 2020. Williams explained why there is an urgent need for nurses in the United States, and also why WCU will expand its nursing program to Baton Rouge, La. The program begins in the fall of 2020, and accepts 40 students each fall and spring semester. This new program includes a curriculum of 18 months. A quick process, offering a quality education, to help push out more nurses into the U.S. workforce. “It fills our mission, and that's certainly one of the things we want to do, use education to increase the quality of healthcare,” Williams said. The program at Baton Rouge General is William Carey's third onsite nursing program, with two located at the Hattiesburg and Biloxi campuses.
