HPD investigating scam involving "Jason", who poses as Mississippi Power rep

(The following is a press release from HPD concerning an ongoing investigation. If you believe you've been targeted by a man named Jason who claims to represent Mississippi, call HPD or your nearest law enforcement agency.)

The Hattiesburg Police Department is warning the public of a scam targeting people in the Hub City.

We have received calls about people posing as Mississippi Power employees and stating that customers owe money for a bill. They also threaten customers to turn off their power if they do not provide them with a credit card number or other financial

information.

The number that is being used is a local number and appears to be a person named “Jason” who is calling.

Do not give anyone your personal information, or banking information.

The above is a link to scam tips through Mississippi Power, and their company is aware of the ongoing scam.

Their employees will never call you and request your personal or financial information.

If you have reason for concern, you can contact Mississippi Power to verify I.D. at 1-800-532-1502.
