USM's Summer Program for Academically Talented Youth
HATTIESBURG, MISS. – USM’s three-week Summer Program for Academically Talented Youth comes to an end in just three days. The program provides exceptional high school and middle school students with first-hand experience of what it is like to be on a college campus Students in the program receive a balance of educational, cultural and recreational experience, and also receive the opportunity to earn school credits over the summer. “Right now we are in the third and final week of our Academically Talented Program,” Director for USM’s Gifted Studies program, Heather Houston said. “Students in this program have taken the ACT or SAT in the 7th grade, and scored as well as or better than entering college freshmen. These students come here to take classes with us, and get the opportunity to take back their grades to their home high schools and petition for credit.” July 27 is the last day of the program.
