Relief Supplies Drive for Hurricane Michael Victims

This press release comes from Powers Fire & Rescue

JONES COUNTY, MISS. - Powers Fire & Rescue is conducting a relief supplies drive for Florida residents whose homes were decimated by Hurricane Michael last week. Firefighters are hoping to fill an 18 wheeler trailer with relief supplies for residents adversely affected by Hurricane Michael starting on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Residents of the Pine Belt are urged to help fill the 18 wheeler trailer with relief supplies such as the following:

Bottled water, bottled sports drinks, non-perishable canned food items, baby formula, baby diapers and wipes, household bleach, household cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, manual can openers, flashlights and batteries, mops, buckets, bath towels, hand tools, tarps, first aid supplies and such.

**At this time, clothing items are not needed so please hold off on those donations until advised.**

The 18 wheeler trailer is staged at B&C Mobile Homes located at 1513 Highway 84 East in the Powers Community less than 1/4 mile outside of the city limits of Laurel. From Laurel, take Highway 84 East toward Waynesboro and turn right just past the Tallahala Creek bridges after exiting the city limits of Laurel into the B&C Mobile Homes lot (right beside the Headrick Signs & Graphics billboard).

Donation hours will be as follows:

Tuesday, October 16th from 8:00am until 6:00pm

Wednesday, October 17th from 8:00am until 6:00pm

Thursday, October 18th from 8:00am until 6:00pm

Friday, October 19th from 8:00am until 6:00pm

Saturday, October 20th from 8:00am until Noon

The 18 wheeler truck, trailer, driver and fuel for the trip is being donated by Ray Herndon, owner of Diamondback Training LLC, and will depart for the Florida Panhandle with relief supplies to be delivered early next week.

The very first donation for relief supplies has come from a Laurel area business, KFC West Quality Foods, with $3,000.00 in donated relief supplies along with a challenge to other Pine Belt area businesses to fill up this relief supplies trailer!

Thousands of homes and businesses in the Florida Panhandle area have been destroyed, damaged or flooded and there is a tremendous need for relief supplies to surge into the affected areas. Please help those in need in Florida with a donation if you can. No donation is too large or too small...many of these people have nothing left.
