A two vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 84 East and Eastview Drive left two drivers injured on Tuesday afternoon. Volunteer fire and rescue units from Powers and Glade responded to the crash along with units from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Jones County Sheriff's Office and EMServ Ambulance Service. Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna and Jones County Fire Council Chaplain Drew Blanton also responded to the scene.
Both drivers sustained what were believed to be moderate injuries in the crash and were transported by EMServ in two ambulances to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment. One eastbound lane of Highway 84 East was closed to traffic during rescue and vehicle recovery operations. This incident marked the second major crash at this intersection in less than two weeks.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed from the scene. Debris from the scene was scattered in the intersection and in the median. Volunteer fire and rescue units were on the scene for approximately thirty minutes conducting rescue operations and assisting with traffic control.
