FCSD issues scam alert

The Forrest County Sheriff's Department is receiving reports of fraudulent calls from individuals claiming to be from the sheriff's office -- and demand they pay outstanding fines to the IRS or be subject to arrest.

"These calls are from scammers attempting to gain further information about you as well as deceive individuals into paying nonexistent fines," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

The IRS will never call you nor will issue arrest warrants through local law enforcement, the sheriff's department added.
