Recent HPSD cuts impact popular programs

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Public School district (HPSD) has made some recent cuts earlier this month which impacts popular programs at the district.

The two extra-curricular divisions are the Forensics and Strings Orchestra program. In April the district cut 46 positions in an effort to save money and budget their financial crisis.

HPSD's Director of Communications, Jas N Smith, said, "We had to lose one teacher from the Forensics program, two teachers have been cut from our Strings Orchestra program."

He said that the district's goal is to "serve our students longer term, in a financially stable situation."

The district hopes no future cuts are necessary.
