Mayor Magee proclaims May as mental health awareness month

LAUREL, Miss. - Mayor Johnny Magee proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness month.

South Central Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) in Laurel is working to raise awareness about the many health conditions associated with mental health.

SCRMC's Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Rhonda McNair said, "People that do not get help can suffer in there own silence. They are not able to hold jobs, unable to hold families together, personal lives are destroyed."

The hospital's joint efforts with the city will help encourage those affected by mental health disorders to receive treatment and for the public to understand the serious conditions.
