Jones county officials pay tribute to fallen Meridian firefighter

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - Public service officials from across the state payed tribute to fallen Meridian firefighter Eric Gustafson Wednesday morning.

Jones county firefighters and law enforcement officials escorted Meridian firefighters to Gustafson's hometown in Covington, Louisiana for the funeral arrangements.

Firefighters stood silent and saluted the Meridian department with the American flag hanging on top of Highway 59 southbound towards News Orleans. Officials escorted the department from the north to south end of Jones County.

Gustafson died last Friday after responding to a call with two other firefighters when their truck rolled over.

The two other firefighters were released from the hospital.
