SPAS hosting fundraiser to help animals and economies overseas

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Pines Animal Shelter (SPAS_ is conducting a “Shoes for Paws” shoe collection drive until October 14 to support their life-saving mission of making a difference for cats or dogs in need.

The shelter will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated footwear, which will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise partners in developing nations.

Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain, and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa.

“It's a fantastic opportunity to not only continue our mission to save and improve the lives of cats and dogs in Mississippi,” said Dani Snell, Southern Pines Media Specialist, “but also to positively impact the lives of people in need.”

By donating shoes to SPAS, the donated shoes will be given a second chance, will make a difference in people’s lives, and will give homeless dogs and cats a chance at happy, new beginnings.

SPAS General Manager, Ginny Sims said, "Anytime that something particularly a fundraiser can be beneficial to more than one group, to more than one way, then I think that is extra special."

The organization is hoping to raise as much money as they can, but their goal is to donate 100 bags of shoes, each bagholding 25 pairs.

People who are interested in donating shoes can drop them off at Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
