Gulfport man surrenders to authorities after setting man on fire

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Police Department said Kunta Kidd, 39, of Gulfport turned himself in to Lamar County Sheriff's Department Wednesday night after allegedly setting a man on fire last week.

Lt. Jon Traxler said, "He was turned over to Hattiesburg Police." Kidd allegedly lit a man on fire on the 500 block of Rub Avenue September 17.

He was charged with one count of aggravated assault, non-use of a weapon. "The victim was airlifted to the Jackson burn center" Lt. Traxler said.

He added, "The guy is in critical condition, but stable." Authorities said the investigation is still ongoing.
