Oak Grove Senior Center now taking voter registrations

OAK GROVE, Miss. - The Oak Grove Senior Center (OGSC) on 4th Street is now considered a voter registration building. Lamar county residents no longer have to travel to Purvis to register to vote.

OGSC received permission from Lamar county Circuit Clerk, Martin Hankins to start registering Lamar county residents.

According to OGSC's Suzanne Oddo, "We are trying to let everyone know and that is what we are doing here."

Oddo said it is a great opportunity for all Lamar county residents. "Before this you had to go to Purvis and to register. That is the only place you can register, so this is just another option for them if you live in this area."

Lamar County resident Bill Bustin said, "It will be really helpful." He added, "It is a good idea for people that moved to Lamar county, especially from up North and places like that."

Bustin continued, "Some of the older people can't travel to Purvis and they can be right here to register to vote and have their voice heard."

OGSC is taking voter registrations up until Oct. 4 Monday - Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
