Firefighters Extricate Occupants After One Vehicle Rollover

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - This is a press release from the Jones County Volunteer Fire Department.

A one vehicle rollover Saturday evening entrapped two adult females. At around 9:50PM, units from Powers, Glade, M&M and Sandersville Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Smith Chapel Road and Eastview Road in front of East Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Upon arrival, firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders found a red SUV turned on its passenger's side against a steep embankment to the side of the road. Due to the positioning of the vehicle and the adult female occupants within, an intense extrication process was required to free both women.

Firefighters used hydraulic power tools and saws to cut the roof of the vehicle so that they could peel it away and create an opening large enough for emergency personnel to climb inside and secure the occupants. When extrication was complete, both occupants were transported in separate EMServ ambulances to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment. The driver sustained what was believed to be minor injuries and the passenger sustained moderate injuries.

Additionally, two female passerby's came upon the wreck and called 911. When units arrived on scene, the passerby's assisted by holding open the driver's side door to aid in the extrication process.

A portion of the road was completely shut down during rescue and cleanup operations. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Rescue personnel on scene included Powers, Glade, M&M and Sandersville Volunteer Fire Departments, EMServ Ambulance Service, Jones County Sheriff's Department and Jones County Public Information Officer Caleb Worrell.
