Southern Miss out of conference championship conversation; bowl aspirations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The last few weeks have not been the best for Golden Eagle fans.

With the recent loss to Old Dominion, Southern Miss will not have a chance to play for a conference championship.

However, the Golden Eagles still could make it to a bowl game, and are hoping to get a win against North Texas this week.

Head coach, Jay Hopson said, "There's been nothing but fight on our football team. That's the Southern Miss way and I'm proud of that. Certainly, we want to win ball games. Those guys fight through life, fight through adversity. That's what we got to do right now. It's just adversity. We got to fight. You don't have a second choice. You can fight or quit, one of the two, and we're going to fight. At the end of the day, that's one thing I'm proud of."
