Southern Miss reducing out-of-state tuition for Fall 2017

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Out-of-state high school seniors can find a sweet tuition deal at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM).

The school announced it is cutting non-resident tuition fees to combat falling enrollments.

USM Vice President of Finance and Administration, Dr. Douglas Vinzant said, "Our goal is to minimize any increase on in-state students, and to generate as much revenue as possible, as we can, from out of state students."

The current cost for non-residents is $16,529 and by Fall of 2017 it will be reduced to $9,964. Officials hope to reverse a 2000 students enrollment drop by pricing USM education below other public universities.

"What we have done is to reduce the price for out of state students and it’s a to attract greater interest, from in particular students in markets that are expanding, beyond that they can reasonably supply" said Dr. Vinzant.
