Local artist receives Grammy nomination

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - One local man has been nominated for a Grammy.

Recording artist, Vasti Jackson has been a part of Grammy winning projects in the past. And now, for the first time, he received a Grammy nomination as a solo recording artist.

Grammy nominee, Vasti Jackson said, "I'm excited and humbled that this work will be recognized by the Grammy Association and people in New York and L.A. from some guy sitting down here in Hattiesburg, Mississippi."

Jackson's sixth CD, "The Soul of Jimmie Rodgers" received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album.

"I believe all good things come from God. So, when my music makes someone feel good, inspires them to laughter, to joy. I feel that God and the Holy Spirit is coming through me and extending itself, and I'm just happy to be a servant," said Jackson.

Jackson hopes his nomination will open doors for the Pine Belt community.

"It's going to create opportunity. Not just for me, but for other citizens in Hattiesburg. Other inspiring musicians, writers, singers. And that really does excite me. That's why I continue to live here," said Jackson.

Jackson said he also teaches music at Southern Miss and local high schools.

He will also be having a Grammy Nomination Christmas Party at Brewsky's on Dec. 23 at 8 p.m.
