Hattiesburg firefighters battle Christmas Eve fire

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Fire Department responded to a house fire Christmas Eve on 1108 East Hardy Street.

According to HFD's Battalion Chief Fire Marshal Stephen Mooney the call came in at 4:02 p.m. and firefighters arrived at 4:03 p.m. due to the location of the house to the fire station.

"We normally provide a three minute response time, but due to the close proximity to station 5 we arrived in one minute response time" said Mooney.

Mooney said occupants left the house for last minute shopping and they returned to a house fire.

He added, "Fire had extended to the attic, but quick action saved the structure from further damage."

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined.

An investigation is still ongoing according to Mooney.
