Hattiesburg High's Jackson receives "Teacher of the Year"

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hattiesburg Public School District announced its "Teacher of the Year" award Wednesday.

Hattiesburg High algebra teacher, Fred Jackson received the award.

From time to time, he would bring in chickens, goats, and other farm animals into the classroom to teach his students about sustainability.

Jackson said "it's exciting, and I know they appreciate it, and it is an honor. But, I don't do anything that dozens of other teachers at this school and within the district do every day. It's just a recognition that I wish more people could have."

Jackson said he may bring ducks into the classroom next time.
