Hinds County deputies donate supplies to Hattiesburg tornado victims

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Hinds County Sheriff's Department donated a variety of supplies to East Jerusalem Baptist Church Wednesday to help those who were affected by the tornado.

Both Hattiesburg Police and Hinds County deputies were there unloading a truck filled with water, food, cleaning supplies, and much more.

Hinds County Sheriff, Victor Mason said, "We brought enough for everyone. As I told one of the police officers, we'll come back if we have to. When I first got here, I was just amazed at the destruction and I said, 'wow, that's power.' So, we want to do our part. And, we'll always be here, and we'll bring prayers back with us."

"This right here just shows us that the state of Mississippi as a whole, not just as one community may be affected. But, the state itself comes together as a whole and we help each other out. And, that's what's so great about Mississippi. That's why we love our state so much," said Hattiesburg Police Officer, Lt. Jon Traxler.

Traxler said he appreciates the support that the Hinds County Sheriff's Department did for the Hattiesburg community.
