The Children's Center Classic comes with a new twist

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss’ Children's Center will have its 3rd annual Children's Center Classic Saturday.

But, this year, the Children's Center is not letting people run in the 5k and 10k challenge first.

Communications coordinator, Samantha McCain said, "We're kicking off the event with our fun run and our children get to run that. So, whether they are walking, or rolling in a stroller, or being pulled in a wagon, our children are going to cross the finish line first. And, we really hope that sets the pace, and the mood, and the tone for the race itself."

For those who may be on the fence on participating should know that this fundraiser is for a good cause.

"We serve children with special needs. And, that is incredibly important because those children are gaining skills that they will continue to foster and grow with as they get older. And, that turns into children who turn into teenagers, and adults who become a part of our society. So, it's a huge blessing that we get to be a part of. But, it's even better when our community partners step up and our community joins in on that cause as well," said McCain.

The Children's Center Classic will start at 9 a.m. near USM's Pride Field parking lot.

Registration starts at 7 a.m.

There will also be prizes and t-shirts handed out as well.
