William Carey receives a $2 million pledge from the Asbury Foundation

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - William Carey received a $2 million pledge from the Asbury Foundation Thursday morning at Hardy Street Baptist Church.

The money will go towards tornado recovery purposes.

Bill Ray, President & CEO of the Asbury Foundation said, "It's our responsibility to see that the university gets back in place. They can use a lot more than $2 million, I'm sure. But, it will stop a lot of gaps that insurance doesn't cover, that students lost, and damaged cars, and other things. It's an unrestricted gift. We didn't give it for a building or to have any recognition for it. We simply want to put that money in Dr. King's discretion so that William Carey, as soon as possible can recover from this disaster."

William Carey President, Dr. Tommy King said he is appreciative of the donation by the Asbury Foundation and wants not only the university, but the Hattiesburg Community to recover fully and quickly from the tornado.
