|Caleb Worrell, Jones County Fire Council

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - A one vehicle accident Saturday afternoon left one woman injured and her car completely destroyed. At around 5:30 p.m., South Jones and Southwest Jones Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene of the accident on Pittman Road. The first units to arrive on scene stated that the car was fully involved with fire, but the woman had safely escaped. According to an Emergency Medical Responder on scene, he was assessing the driver at a safe distance from the vehicle when he heard explosions. It was later discovered that the tires were exploding due to the immense heat. When firefighters arrived on scene, they quickly brought the flames under control. The adult female driver was believed to have sustained minor injuries, but she refused transport to the hospital. A portion of Pittman Road was completely shutdown during emergency operations and vehicle recovery.
