Ole Miss Chancellor's position on tuition increase

OXFORD, Miss. - Tuition has increased for universities in Mississippi due to state funding.

-Southern Miss has a 7.3% increase

-Mississippi State has a 6.9% increase

-Ole Miss has a 7% increase

Ole Miss Chancellor, Jeffrey Vitter shared his thoughts about this issue.

"It's tough to raise tuition. But because of the budget cuts, we have to maintain the flagship education that we offer. Education is a great enabler for our society. There's nothing more important than to the future of our entire state and nation than higher education. And that's why we work with the state to make that case, because we want education to be accessible to everyone," said Vitter.

Vitter said the university works diligently with donors to provide scholarships to students who are in need of financial assistance.
