Bond set for Lamar Co. teacher

HATTIESBURG, MS. - A bond for $150,000 has been set for former Lamar County School District teacher. According to Lamar County, Judge Charles Greer, Hipp was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation.

The mother of three has been arrested and charged with one count of statutory rape in an ongoing investigation in regards to an alleged sexual relationship with a student.

According to Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel, Jones County deputies arrested Jenny Christine Hipp, 38, a Lamar County Speech Language Pathologist Sunday afternoon.

Lamar County Superintendent Tess Smith released the following statement:

"I received a complaint on Thursday, June 15, 2017 and began an immediate investigation. When I received information Wednesday, June 21, 2017 regarding possible criminal behavior, I contacted the Lamar County District Attorney’s office. The employee has been terminated. We are cooperating fully with their ongoing investigation. Because of the ongoing criminal investigation, no other information can be given at this time."

Hipp has been employed with the Lamar County school district since 2014.
