H'burg Salvation Army accepting donations to help Texans

HATTIESBURG, MS. - Salvation Army (SA) officials say they are all too familiar with natural disasters after the January tornado damaged parts of its building.

Officials are encouraging residents to help Texans after the massive storm flooded Houston over the weekend.

Captain Stacey Connelly with Salvation Army says, "The reality is when natural disasters strike, we strike back.”

Salvation Army groups across the nation are in Texas assisting people who are displaced. Captain Connelly say, "They (salvation army groups) have been there before the storm even hit."

The organization is currently taking monetary donations to help those affected by the storm.

"We send mobile units to feed, we sent cots to help house those that are displaced, clean up kits are given to those people who get back in their property" says Captain Connelly.

According to Captain Connelly, if called upon, Hattiesburg SA officers are prepared to leave to Texas and assist with the damage.

"We are all called by God to help our neighbor when they are in trouble" she says.

Residents can visit salvationarmy.org or dial 1-800-SAL-ARMY or text STORM to 5155 to donate.
