HATTIESBURG, MS. - The following is a press release from the Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation.
Long Leaf Timber recently finalized the donation of an office building near downtown Hattiesburg to The Great Pinebelt Community Foundation.
The property, located at 1501 Adeline formerly housed the Long Leaf Timber offices.
The building contains 5,000 square feet of office space that will be available for lease in the near future.“We are so grateful for the generosity of Long Leaf Timber Company,” said Theresa Erickson, Executive Director of the Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation.
“Because the Community Foundation is a non-profit organization, a 501(c)3, under the federal tax code, Long Leaf Timber will receive favorable tax treatment for the gift and the Community Foundation has received a wonderful property. They chose the PineBelt Community Foundation because they have seen the work we do and they believe in our mission to build stronger communities through philanthropy.”
“We are so excited, the Long Leaf Timber company has donated this building to us, and while we are very appreciative of the Fairchilds and all they have done for us, we are thrilled to be moving into this new building.”
Long Leaf Timber Company is a Mississippi corporation which was formerly known as Tatum Lumber Company. Since the early 1900s, it has owned and managed thousands of acres of timber land originally owned by its founder, Mr. F.M. Tatum, and his brothers, W.O. Tatum and W.S. Tatum.
Long Leaf’s shareholders and officers include numerous extended Tatum family members, all descendants of F.M. Tatum.
“As a longtime Hattiesburg-area company, we wanted to know that our donation of the Adeline Street office would accomplish something positive in the local area,” said Long Leaf President, Paul T. Tatum.
“The Greater Pinebelt Community Foundation’s reputation for good works made us comfortable with our decision, and their staff made the process very easy.”“We have numerous donors who truly want to make their community a better place to live and we are grateful for each of them,” said Terri Bell, President of the PineBelt Community Foundation.
“The PineBelt Foundation manages 200 charitable funds set up by donors who want to leave a legacy and make a difference in the Pine Belt area. Donors can set up Funds in their name, in memory of a loved one, or to honor someone. Funds can be to set up to support the donor’s favorite charity or for a charitable cause" said Bell.
