William Carey University named a 2018 “Hidden Gem” by College Raptor

This is a press release from William Carey University.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - William Carey University has been recognized as a “Hidden Gem” by College Raptor, a college planning website that helps families discover colleges based on personalized estimates of actual college costs. Carey earned spots as a 2018 Hidden U.S. Gem and as a Hidden Southeast Gem.

This selection recognizes WCU as one of the best colleges in the country, based on a combination of factors, including number of applications received, graduation rates, campus diversity, endowment per student, and other key metrics as reported via the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) for the most recently available enrollment year.

“I am thrilled that we are recognized as a Hidden Gem,” said Admissions Director Alissa King.

King pointed out the students and faculty are the university’s gems. “As a graduate of WCU and director of admissions, I have been the recipient of exceptional advisement and care from our distinguished faculty,” she said. “Our current students note that one of the most important reasons they select WCU is due to the commitment of our faculty. Faculty know our students and strive for each to achieve the pinnacle of success.”

While the Hidden Gem recognition is an honor, King said she no longer wants Carey to be hidden. “With community, faculty, staff, student, and alumni support, I want us to be the best-known university. We will continue to strive for all students both in the United States and internationally to recognize the quality Christian education available at William Carey University.”

College Raptor CEO Bill Staib said the Hidden Gems lists showcase lesser-known colleges and empower prospective students and parents to discover schools they might not have considered. “We highlight institutions like WCU because they go beyond academic excellence and invest in an environment that provides the best educational outcomes for their students. They deserve the spotlight,” Staib said.

College Raptor’s Hidden Gems began in tandem with their Best Colleges Rankings four years ago, in an attempt to better represent an overall assessment of the health and quality of a college. To that end, College Raptor’s ranking comprises a number of specific factors that are then combined into a single weighted score, which determines a college’s overall rank.
