This is a press release from Hattiesburg Convention Commission.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Historic Hattiesburg Saenger Theater is gearing up for one of its favorite Halloween traditions –The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which will show at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 27.

Originally a British stage play, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has gained a unique and loyal cult-like following across the country since 1975. The quirky film chronicles a stranded couple’s night in a castle full of unusual and unforgettable characters. Mischief and hilarity abound as the two find themselves in the midst of a bizarre party and a twisted science experiment.

Audience participation is highly encouraged throughout the event, including the annual pre-show costume contest complete with prizes for winners, Time Warp dance lessons taught by Hattiesburlesque, and the use of expected interactive props, which are included in the ticket price.

Additionally, prior to the event, the Saenger will host an Anticipation Party at 5:30 p.m., featuring Rocky themed cocktails for purchase. “The Saenger’s showing of Rocky Horror has been a Hattiesburg favorite for many years. We are thrilled to bring back features from years past, like Hattiesburlesque and the impressive costume contest, as well as introduce new components to the event we know fans of the movie will love,” Nathan Jennings, Saenger general manager, said.

A special addition to the event this year is a shadow cast performance of the feature by the Bottom of the Barrel Players theater group. The actors will enact the movie on stage as it plays behind them. “Bottom of the Barrel is eager to perform Rocky Horror and bring a new element to this Saenger tradition. We expect attendees, both those who are part of the Rocky following and first-timers, to enjoy the presentation,” Sam Buchanan, artistic director of Bottom of the Barrel Players, said.
