Woman Dies After Trying To Evade Police

Hattiesburg police say a woman took off in the 4400 block of Hardy Street, then crashed into the Jackie D. Sherrill Community Center downtown after she tried to evade police.

"The officers pursued the vehicle until the suspect became very erratic," Hattiesburg Police Department, LT. LaTosha Myers said. "The officers discontinued the pursuit, pulled back off the suspect. The suspect continued driving erratically and at the two hundred block of West Front Street, the suspect had an accident and ran into the building. Officers were able to get out and try to extract the suspect from the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. The vehicle caught on fire and engulfed in flames."

Myers said the identity of the woman still remains unknown.
