Forrest General’s Spirit Girls host first Prom-A-Polooza

This is a press release from Forrest General Hospital.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Forrest General’s Spirit Girls will host their first Prom-A-Polooza event on March 17 in the Spirit of Women Conference Room at 28th Place located at 421 South 28th Avenue in Hattiesburg.

Prom-A-Polooza will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for high school girls to shop and try on dresses, which will be available to rent for $12. The funds collected from dress rentals will be used for dry cleaning and storage for the following year.

“This event is a way for our Spirit Girls to help their peers and give them an example of what it looks like to encourage other women. The girls renting dresses will take away memories that will last a lifetime without the financial burden of buying a dress,” said Tyra Willamor, Spirit Girls and Sweeteas coordinator.

The Spirit Girls have been accepting formal dress donations for the past two months and have collected over 300 gowns for the event. They also collected donations of formal shoes, dress racks, hangers and full-length mirrors.

Willamor and other program organizers say they are always looking for additional events to broaden participants' horizons, and invite organizations to submit requests for assistance from Spirit Girls at their upcoming events. Organizations can request the assistance of the Spirit Girls by filling out a Spirit Girl Assistance Request form at least 30 days in advance. All details of the event must be written on the form and will be discussed before the event is approved.

To obtain an event assistance request form and/or for more information on the Spirit Girls or Prom-A-Palooza, contact Tyra Willamor at 601-288-1302 or tyra.willamor@forrestgeneral.com.
